On last night’s DoDcast, we discuss the latest Washington Nationals news and react to the Hall Of Fame results

History was made last night as the Washington Nationals had a player who played for their team since 2005 reach the Hall Of Fame in Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez. Two hours after the results were announced, we recorded our second episode of the DoDcast with Ron Juckett, myself, and one of our writers at the site, Matt Weyrich.

Of course, the three of us started the conversation by talking about whether or not the BBWAA voters got it right with Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines (former Montreal Expo) and Pudge getting into the Hall of Fame. Plus, we talk about whether or not Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens should get into the Hall of Fame.

Then, we wrapped up our Hall of Fame talk by discussing how the voting can be improved, what is one player we think deserved to be in the Hall of Fame that ended up not getting in, and Ron and I talk about who we voted for on our IBWAA Hall of Fame ballots.

After our Hall Of Fame talk, we moved on to the tweets Bryce Harper and Adam Eaton sent out Wednesday about the Washington Nationals reported interest in reliever Greg Holland and catcher Matt Wieters.

The three of us react to those tweets and how much input should Harper have on the Nats decisions with two years left on his deal? In addition, we answer a question that someone sent us about whether Harper’s tweet shows a lack of faith in the organization.

Of course, the Washington Nationals closer situation has yet to be resolved. We debate whether or not the Nats should give Holland the opt-out if it gets the deal done. Plus, who is the best option to start the year as the closer for this team if they stay internal with that role? Is Sammy Solis a darkhorse candidate for the spot?

For our last topic, Matt gave his take on what he is looking for during this season and he talks about the expectations for Stephen Strasburg in the first year of his new seven-year deal. I talk about how I am looking forward to watching Trea Turner and Eaton steal bases. Finally, Ron says he is looking forward to watching Harper bounce back.
