The Atlanta Braves and game action highlight this week’s Washington Nationals’ podcast, The DoDCast. What did we like this week?

District on Deck’s Ricky Keeler, and myself, recorded the latest edition of The DodCast—the best podcast about the Washington Nationals—Monday night.

Joining us on the show was FanSided colleague Benjamin Chase of Call to the Pen and Tomahawk Take, the Atlanta Braves site on the network.

Before Ben joined us roughly 20 minutes in, we broke down the first three games of Spring Training with extra emphasis on Andrew Stevenson’s good play. Forget about the record this time of year and focus on the individual performances. Which we did.

More from District on Deck

Aside from Stevenson and the bullpen, we look at Bryce Harper’s mammoth home run in Port St. Lucie against the New York Mets and talk about the catcher situation.

When Chase came on, our attention turned to previewing the Braves and their multitude of prospects.  Atlanta opens a new park in the suburbs this year as it comes off an improved second-half to 2016.

We talk about their revamped pitching staff, the impact of Dansby Swanson and how they figure to be a tougher opponent for the Nats in 2017.

An encyclopedia of knowledge on prospects and scouting, Chase gives great details on who is working their way up the Braves pipeline and the Nationals.

A brief glitch knocked Chase off a few minutes. Ricky and I continued to go through our takeaways from the Nats opening weekend before Ben’s connection returned. In his second segment, he handicapped where he thought Atlanta would finish. With a strong tailwind, they could contend for a Wild Card spot.

We agree with that along with his general prediction of around 70-75 wins.

After Chase left, we finished our game review, talked about the surplus at catcher and the possible impact of an Angel Pagan signing.

Over an hour of Nats and Braves talk to get you through the week. As a side note, we did the show the night before the Joe Blanton signing and the opener at West Palm Beach.

Next Monday we will be back around our normal 8 PM Livestream on YouTube. Aside from a wrap of the week, we hope to continue our look at the division with another National League East expert.
