Will Trea Turner improve in game two?

Coming into the series, Trea Turner was believed to be an x-factor who could potentially make an enormous impact on the series. Unfortunately for the Nats, Turner struggled in game one, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Considering the Nats’ offense struggled throughout much of September and could not have gotten off to a worse start to the series in game one, they may have to manufacture runs in order to score in the postseason. If they are going to manufacture runs, Turner must be the star.

Although he looked lost at the plate in game one, there is still hope that he will improve for the remainder of the series. Last year, he had a tremendous NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .318 with five runs scored, but struggled in game one. In game one of last year’s NLDS, Turner went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, arguably worse than last night.

If Turner is able to find a way on base tonight, look for him to run wild. Cubs starter Jon Lester is notoriously bad at holding baserunners, and Turner will undoubtedly look to run when he is on base. If he is able to get on base and steal a few bags, the middle of the Nats’ lineup should be able to drive him in.

Ultimately, Turner must improve in game two. The Nats may not need him to manufacture runs in order to win, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
