The 2019 season presents Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner an excellent opportunity to emerge as a star, and out of the shadow of his teammates.

Trea Turner is one of the best players on the Washington Nationals roster. The Nationals star players have often overshadowed him, but this season could give him a chance to emerge as another star on the Nationals roster.

Last season, Turner played all 162 games. That led to him leading the MLB in at-bats and NL in stolen bases. He also finished the season with a career high in RBIs and home runs. 2018 showed what Trea Turner is capable of for a full season.

Turner is one of the most exciting players on the basepaths. He has had 122 steals over the past three seasons. The last two seasons, Turner has finished with over 40 steals and finished top three in the league. He is one of the fastest players in Major League Baseball, but his skill set isn’t limited to just stealing bases.

This season, Turner could find himself in the leadoff spot at times for the Nationals. His ability to get on base will be a crucial part of the Nationals season. Turner’s .271 average and .344 OBP from last year will certainly be adequate for what the Nationals need, but if he can improve on those numbers, he could be the key to the Nationals offense.

Turner creates a problem when he’s on the bases. The pitcher must focus on him while also focusing on the batter. This will open up great opportunities for hitters in the heart of the Nationals lineup to drive in runs.

Turner is also a good fielder. He provides the Nationals a quality defender at one of the most critical spots on the field.

Overall, Turner has turned into one of the best shortstops in the league. He had a great 2018 season, but with Bryce Harper’s exit, it opens the door for him to become a major star for the Nationals. 2019 is Turner’s time to shine.
