Rumors have surfaced that the Washington Nationals have two names they are looking into the upgrade their struggling bullpen.

It is no secret the Washington Nationals are looking to upgrade their bullpen. After a 4-3 loss to the divison leading Atlanta Braves in which their bullpen played a big part, a report surfaced from Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic that the team is interesed in Detriot Tigers closer Shane Greene and Sam Dyson of the San Francisco Giants.

Well first start by talking about Greene. The current Tigers’ closer was a first-time All-Star just a few weeks ago, and has been one of, if not the best closer in all of baseball this season. In 35 games Greene has given up just four earned runs, good for a 1.03 ERA and 22 saves. He also has struck out 37 batters in those 35 innings while walking just 10, and posted an impressive 3.54 FIP.

While he would not assume the closer role in Washington, Greene could be an absoutelty dominant setup main to pair with Sean Doolittle in the ninth. Another huge plus is Greene only is making four million dollars this season, and is under team control until the end of the 2020 season.

With the push for relief help at this deadline, the cost for Greene will be steep, but Washington could feel he is worth it knowing they will have him atleast the rest of this season and all of next year. A combo of Greene and Doolittle in the eighth and ninth would be one of the best in the league.

Now lets look at Sam Dyson. The current Giants reliever has had a very solid 2019 season. He currently has a 2.68 ERA and has struck out 46 batters in 47 innings. He also has a 2.67 FIP which is excellent. Dyson is a part of a Giants team who has climbed back into the playoff race, sitting just two games back in the NL Wild Card race, but still figure to be leaning towards being sellers at the deadline.

Dyson, just like Greene, is under team control until after the 2020 season. Despite producing great production, the price-tag for Dyson will be supstancially less than Greene. Washington likely could get Dyson without having to give up any of their top prospects, and possibly could get San Francisco to throw in left-hander Tony Watson as a package deal.
