Tampa Evens The Series at One Win A Piece

Brandon Lowe’s two homers powered Tampa to a 6-4 win in Game Two.

Tampa bounced back after losing Game One thanks to the offense finally waking up. After scoring three runs in Game One, the offense scored six runs on 10 hits. The offense is still not fully clicking yet, as they went 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.

Brandon Lowe was the star of the night.  He was Tampa’s best hitter in the regular season, but had been awful so far in the playoffs. Entering tonight, he was hitting .107, with one homer and 19 strikeouts. He started the scoring for Tampa during the top of the first inning. He crushed a solo shot off of the Dodgers starter, Tony Gonsolin to put Tampa up 1-0. But that was just the beggining. In the fifth inning, Lowe launched a two-run shot off of Dustin May. He finished tonight 2-5, with three RBIs. It wasn’t just Lowe who showed up for the offense. Joey Wendle came through with a two-run double in the fourth and then added a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

2018 AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell took the mound for Tampa tonight and was impressive early. He went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs while striking out nine. Snell ran out of gas in the fourth and the bullpen bailed him out. With two on, two out and Nick Anderson came in and struck out Justin Turner to end the threat.

For the Dodgers, Corey Seager added his seventh home run of the playoffs, a solo shot in the eighth. Manager Dave Roberts made the questionable decision of pulling his starter in the second inning and turned it into a bullpen game. Ace, Walker Buehler was also available on four days rest. Instead, he will start Game Three for L.A. Tampa will counter with Charlie Morton. Morton has been nearly unhittable for the Rays playoff run. He has a .57 ERA. Game Three is Friday night.
