The baseball season is already coming towards the finishing stretch. Time flies, but I thought it was about time that we took a look back into the Nationals farm system. The future of this team lies firmly in the grasp of their youth. The more hits and the less busts, the better this team will be over the next few years. Here is how some of our top prospects are doing up to mid-august.
Eli Willits
Prospect Ranking #1
Of course the top prospect will have a while to go. He is just a 17 year old prospect that was drafted at first overall, but he does not project to see the diamond for at least three years, maybe longer. Luckily for Willits, he has already just gained his first minor league promotion to Single-A Fredericksburg. In his debut, Willits went for 3-4 last night. Off to a good start.
Jarlin Susana
Prospect Ranking #3
Jarlin Susana is lighting up the minor leagues as he has surged towards the front of the Nationals Top Prospects list. He has played A+ and AA ball this year. In 12 total starts, Susana has 14.86 K/9 with a 3.26 ERA. Unfortunately, Susana has a record of 0-3 with just 4.1 innings pitched per game. Regardless, his stuff has been nasty.
Susana commands a three-pitch repertoire of fastball-slider-changeup. His fastball is his strong suit with around a 100 mph bullet, give or take. He is due up in 2026 which would be a massive help to this major league rotation.
Luke Dickerson
Prospect Ranking #4
Dickerson is another highly-regarded prospect for the Nationals. Dickerson is a 2nd round pick with a $3.8 Million on the books. She shortstop commands just a .639 OPS this season, but as a young 20 year old, he is hopeful to improve fast. It is no surprise that he is ranked 4th. The best MLB prospects think he is that good. Dickerson is due up not until 2028, so he has time.
Alex Clemmey
Prospect Ranking #5
Alex Clemmey was a second round draft pick in 2023. He signed for a $2.3 million, a testament to his filthy fastball-slider combo, with a changeup also in the bag. Clemmey had early control issues, but seems to have improved mightily in 2025. His total MiLB stat line is with a 3.18 ERA.
Clemmey did just get called up to Double-A and he got shelled for 8 earned runs. This is the highest level that he has reached, so the Nationals will hope that he finds his grounding in his next few games. 2027 is his due date.
Seaver King
Prospect Ranking #7
You have got to love the name, but you will hope to see good baseball. The Nationals drafted King in the first round, but he still has a lot of work to do. In the minor leagues this season, Seaver King is batting just .240 with a .624 OPS. He is not due up until 2027. This offseason will be huge for King to accelerate his hitting as an optimistic team prospect. He is 22 years old, not so young as Willits, so time is money.
Bonus Check In: Travis Sykora
Sykora is currently going through the Tommy-John process. Unfortunately, most pitchers will undergo this procedure in their career. Perhaps it may not be terrible that he is getting it done so early. Sykora is now due up in 2027, but depending on how he heals and rehabs, this could be delayed. We will check back in on the #2 prospect next summer.
