The Washington Nationals are set to play the second game in a 3-game series against the Colorado Rockies tonight, and the game could have some very real fireworks in store. Former Rockies lefty and waiver wire addition for the Nationals, Carson Palmquist, will be opening today's game. and opposing him will be righty Michael Lorenzen, who once threw a no-hitter against the Nationals back in 2023.
Hopefully, history does not repeat itself, but given that Miles Mikolas is set to come in after Palmquist, there is a very good chance that we see at least a couple innings of Mikolas and his 5.53 ERA against Lorenzen and his 6.22 ERA at Coors Field. If you love offense, it should be a fun one, and hopefully the Nationals will be able to keep things away from their bullpen in a close game. While Palmquist is facing his former team, another former Rockies pitcher won't be able to appear in the game.
Justin Lawrence DFA'd as Eddy Yean recalled from AAA Rochester
For the Nationals, righty Eddy Yean is headed back to the majors just a couple weeks after making his initial big league debut, and his return has been looked forward to for a bit. The 25-year-old righty has looked very good for the Red Wings this year, pitching to a 3.35 ERA and 1.09 WHIP, and his lone appearance in the majors was a good one as well.
Yean struck out 3 batters in 2.0 innings of work in his lone appearance in the majors earlier this year for the Nationals and had a lot of fans disappointed when he was subsequently demoted. He will be taking the place of righty Justin Lawrence on the Nationals' roster, who had some up and down results for his latest club after being claimed on waivers from the Twins.
Lawrence locked down a save in his debut for the Nationals, but also had some appearances for the team that were not exactly great. As a pitcher who has bounced around a ton within the last year or so, Lawrence will now be looking for his next opportunity, and whether or not he returns to the Nationals' organization remains to be seen. After being designated for assignment, Lawrence will be in limbo for a few days, and we will see how it all plays out.
