DMV Mascots turned the Nationals Presidents Race into a WWE Event

Many DMV mascots gathered at Nationals Park for Screech’s Birthday, and the event turned into a full-on Sunday Night Smackdown during their gamely tradition.

Many teams have many great traditions. The Houston Astros have a Home Run Train, The New York Yankees have their Player Roll Call, The Milwaukee Brewers have a sausage race, and the New York Mets raise a Giant Apple, to name a few. But by far, the best tradition of all (without any bias) must be the Washington Nationals GEICO Presidents Race, and the team delivered with yet another 5-star spectacle this past Sunday in a game against the Astros.

For those who are unaware, when the Washington Nationals moved back to D.C., they started a hilarious tradition called the “Presidents Race” which is now sponsored by GEICO. During every home game, in the middle of the 4th inning, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt mascots race from center field to the 1se base dugout. This race has gained a lot of followers throughout the years due to the unique events and storytelling that occurs.

Every year, April 21st is celebrated at Nationals Park as “Kids Opening Day,” as well as Screech’s (the team’s mascot) birthday. Every year, tons of DMV mascots attend the event, and this year included the likes of Slapshot (Washington Capitals), G-Wiz (Washington Wizards), Major Tuddy (Washington Commanders), and Freedom (USA Baseball) to name a few. There were also many College Mascots in the stadium from James Madison University, University of Maryland, and a few others. Also making her yearly appearance was Screech’s Mom, “Mama Screech.” Now, with all these characters at the stadium, and a specified event that targets 4 big headed presidents, there was a sense around the park that shenanigans where about to unfold.

After being chased by a flock of birds for about 50 feet, the presidents would be surprised by another flock of mascots who emerged from the bullpen and would turn the president's race, into a full-on WWE match.

G-Wiz started the attacking by laying out Teddy, which would be followed by a wicked elbow to the neck from Major Tuddy. The other mascots would follow by taking out Tom, George, and Abe. With all this carnage going on, Mama Screech emerged from the bullpen as well, and directed Screech to pick up the win on his birthday. The Race was so eventful that the likes of Barstool Sports and FOX News both covered the event.

I strongly recommend watching and paying attention to the event. The Race has had many special appearances, from a flying easter bunny to the Oriole Bird, and even Wrestlers from the company AEW. The President's Race is always a spectacle and will always be the greatest tradition in MLB.
