Who would have thought that the Washington Nationals would be one of the hottest teams in baseball right now?

Washington is just 10 games below .500 on the season after winning eight of it’s last 10 games, and now it gets to take on a New York Yankees team that has lost nine straight contests.

New York scored just one run in the series opener between these clubs, and that’s not going to get it done in any circumstance.

Luis Severino (2-8, 7.98 ERA) gets the ball for New York in this game against Washington’s MacKenzie Gore (6-9, 4.38 ERA). Severino has been terrible as of late, which could give some betting value to the Nationals, who are set as road underdogs in this game.

Nationals vs. Yankees prediction and pick

The Nationals beat the Yankees on Tuesday night despite Carlos Rodon pitching his best game in a Yankees uniform.

The reason why? New York’s offense struggled again, scoring just one run and mustering just two hits in the loss. New York has now dropped nine straight games, all but ending its chances at a playoff spot.

Things won’t get much better for the Yankees on Wednesday, as Severino gets the start and he’s been downright awful for the team this season.

Luis Severino is a must fade: The Yankees right-hander enters this game with a 7.98 ERA, allowing at least four runs in each of his last fours starts. He has an 11.08 ERA since the start of July, and th Yankees are just 1-7 in his eight starts over that stretch.

Gore is clearly the better pitcher in this game, and he’s coming off one of his best outings of the season, tossing 6.1 innings of one-hit ball against the Boston Red Sox.

The Nationals should tee off on Severino, and I doubt the Yankees’ sputtering offense is able to put up enough runs to win this game. The Nats should hand New York its 10th straight loss tonight.
