So far, this year's spring training period has been a time of learning for fans of the franchise. We have learned a lot about many players within the organization, and there have been some names that fans have begun to learn and will need to familiarize themselves with.
A lot of those names are ones that a lot of Nationals fans might know, like Eli Willits, last year's number 1 overall draft pick, or Seaver King, 2024's 1st round selection, but there are also other names to know. Guys like Harry Ford, who was actually just optioned earlier this week and is likely to be the catcher of the future, and Gavin Fien, who flashed a lot in yesterday's Spring Breakout game, also figure to be huge pieces of the future era of the Nationals.
There will be a new competitive era that takes place hopefully within the next few seasons, and it will be when guys like Willits, Fien, King, Ford, and others all make the big leagues. One guy that should firmly be on Nationals fans' radar after yesterday's game should be last year's 4th-rounder, Miguel Sime Jr.
His performance yesterday was eye-popping, and he provided a lot of reason to keep track of his progress throughout this season. Despite firing just 9 of his 21 total pitches for strikes, Sime Jr. flashed his elite potential and upside as he struck out a pair of hitters, one of which was a pretty notable top prospect in JJ Wetherholt.

Wetherholt is expected to be a frontrunner for National League Rookie of the Year alongside New York Mets' righty Nolan McLean, yet Sime Jr. made him look absolutely silly in their battle against one another. The Nationals' 18-year-old got Wetherholt to swing out of his shoes and lose his helmet in the process, and just like the tweet above says, Sime Jr. fired 9/14 fastballs of 100 MPH or higher, touching as high as 101.9 MPH.
Obviously, Sime Jr. has a long journey ahead of him to make the major leagues, but him flashing this elite upside early on before he has even played a professional game in the Nationals' organization is the same reason why we got excited about fellow top prospect Jarlin Susana. If Sime Jr. can continue to progress like this throughout the next few years...watch out, MLB.
