Washington Nationals: Revere’s 1st Walk-Off Hit Beats Reds

Tonight, the Washington Nationals won their sixth straight game on a walk-off double by Ben Revere in the 14th inning

The Washington Nationals extended their current winning streak to six games, thanks to Ben Revere being the hero. The outfielder hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the 14th inning to help his club defeat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2.

Daniel Murphy gave the Washington Nationals a 1-0 lead in the first inning as he hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Revere. One inning later, Tucker Barnhart tied the score at one for the Reds with a two-out RBI single that scored Adam Duvall.

It was Duvall who gave the Reds a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when he a single to center field that scored Joey Votto. But, the Nats would answer right back. Murphy helped the Washington Nationals tie the game at 2-2, as he laced a two-out RBI double to right field in the bottom of the sixth. The Nats’ second baseman finished the game going 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI’s.

Tanner Roark had another stellar start for the Nats. The right-hander pitched seven innings, scattered eight hits, yielded two runs, issued two walks and fanned four batters on 108 pitches (62 strikes) in a no-decision.

This was the third consecutive outing that Roark has lasted at least seven innings and surrendered three runs or less. It was also the tenth occurrence in 2016 that he has thrown seven or more innings.

As for Anthony DeSclafani, he was just as good. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowed two runs on six hits, struck out eight, and walked two on 111 pitches (68 strikes) in a no-decision.

The performance from the Washington Nationals bullpen was outstanding as Sammy SolisShawn KelleyOliver PerezBlake Treinen and Yusmeiro Petit combined to throw seven shutout innings and surrendered just three hits. Petit would end up getting his third win of the season, and he has been the Nats good luck charm this season.

Ross Ohlendorf suffered his sixth loss of the season when he allowed Revere to hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the 14th to give the Nats a 3-2 victory. This was the first career walk-off hit for Revere, according to Andrew Simon of MLB.com.
