Welcome Your New District On Deck Co-Editor: Ricky Keeler

Hello District On Deck Readers, my name is Ricky Keeler and I am your new co-editor, beginning today. First off, I want to thank the other co-editor, Pablo Roa, for allowing me to be a part of this already great team of Nationals’ writers.

I have been with the Fansided Network since I started as a staff writer over at Yanks Go Yard in May of 2011. Over the course of the last four seasons, I was promoted to senior staff writer on the site and have also hosted the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show.

The show has had current players as guests such as Justin Wilson, former players in Alvaro Espinoza and Billy Sample and some of the top Yankees’ writers in the business just to name a few. One of the things that we also do on the show is series previews with other writers from the Fansided Network, which I am sure we will use when the Yankees face the Nationals during the 2015 season.

While I am not a Nationals’ fan, this organization is something that I am really excited to get a chance to write about. While this team has yet to win a playoff series, there are a lot of exciting players to watch such as hitters Bryce Harper, Ian Desmond, Jayson Werth and two front-line pitchers in Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann? Plus, how will manager Matt Williams do in his second year at the helm?

More from Nationals News

What decisions will general manager Mike Rizzo make in terms of who to extend going forward? The team has a lot of players that can be free agents next offseason in Zimmerman, Doug Fister, Desmond, and Denard Span just to name a few. So far, I have liked the small moves the Nationals have made this winter, which includes trading for a young shortstop with a bright future in Trea Turner.

I am from New York City, so I get the chance to see the Nationals continually beat up on the Mets from time-to-time, but the division has seen some improvements this offseason with the Miami Marlins making moves and the New York Mets expected to get Matt Harvey back into the rotation.

The goal for Pablo and I at District On Deck is to bring all of you extensive coverage of the Nationals and the organization’s minor league affiliates. From AAA Syracuse to short season single-A Auburn, we will have you covered. You will also see us bring some history to the site involving the Montreal Expos because its still a part of Washington’s history in some way, shape, or form.

I am excited to take on this new challenge and hope that you enjoy our coverage throughout this 2015 season. I would also like to wish all of you a Happy New Year!
