Good evening DoD readers and welcome to today’s District Daily. Get caught up on the latest Nats news and opinions with some great Washington Nationals articles from around the web below.
In today’s Daily, the Washington Post’s Chelsea Janes discusses Nationals reliever Aaron Barrett. As Janes notes, the Nationals have placed Barrett on the disabled list with a sprained right elbow. The disabled list stint is retroactive to Aug 6.
The news of Barrett landing on the disabled list was surprising for many since the right-hander had just been sent down to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Barrett didn’t make an appearance for the Chiefs, and the Nationals instead voided his minor league option with the DL stint.
It’ll be the second DL stint of the season for Barrett, who was out for a month earlier this year with a right biceps strain. The right-hander is 3-3 with a 4.60 ERA in 40 games with the Nationals this season.

Also in today’s Daily, MLB.com’s Connor Smolensky reports that the Nationals have signed veteran right-hander Juan Gutierez to a minor league deal. Citing a source, Smolensk says the deal is done pending a physical.
As Solensky notes in his article, Gutierez has been with the Phillies organization this season and prior to that had played six seasons in the big leagues with five organizations. His most recent stint in the majors was last season with the Giants, where he went 1-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 61 appearances.

Aaron Barrett reappeared in the Nationals‘ clubhouse Sunday morning, which was somewhat of a surprise given he was optioned to Class AAA Syracuse on Thursday after a rough outing Wednesday evening. Blake Treinen replaced him on the Nationals roster at the time.
The Nationals voided Barrett’s option to Syracuse Sunday, and placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow instead, retroactive to Aug. 6. Barrett does not lose an option, which is canceled out by the disabled list stint. Read full article here.
