Reaction: Lack of Clutch Hitting Ruins Washington Nationals Home Opener

The Nats had their chances, but failed to capitalize offensively in a 6-4 loss to the Marlins

Yesterday was a day of excitement for the Washington Nationals and their fans as they kicked off the home slate of games for the 2016 season. The team had good momentum after sweeping the Atlanta Braves down in Turner Field. However, they were unable to beat the Miami Marlins as they lost 6-4.

It was a game that was halted for almost 90 minutes due to rain after two innings had been played and after the Nats had erased a 3-0 deficit after the top of the first innings thanks to a Daniel Murphy bases clearing triple. However, after that hit, the offense was 0-for-12 with men in scoring position.

The only other plus for the offense yesterday was Bryce Harper as the reigning NL MVP had two walks and hit his 99^th career home run when he crushed a solo shot off the second deck in right field during the bottom of the seventh inning.

On the pitching side, Tanner Roark struggled in his first start of 2016 as he was only able to go four innings as the Marlins had nine singles against him. It was not the way Roark wanted to begin his first year back in the rotation.
