More from District on Deck

In today’s Daily, MLB.com’s Bill Ladson discusses some good news for the Nationals organization. As Ladson writes, the Nationals have agreed to terms with first-round pick Carter Kieboom. Kieboom, whom the team drafted out of high school, is the bother of Nationals catching prospect Spencer Kieboom — the team’s No. 21 prospect.

As Ladson writes, Kieboom was at Nationals Park on Monday and watched the team take batting practice. The 18-year-old had previously committed to Clemson.

Also in today’s Daily, the Washington Post’s Chelsea Janes discusses how Jonathan Papelbon was unavailable last night due to soreness. As Janes notes, manager Dusty Baker said that the soreness was not in Papelbon’s arm.

Here’s what Baker had to say about Papelbon last night, via Janes’ article:

"“We really don’t know yet,” Baker said. “Pap was feeling pretty sore, and he was ailing, so we didn’t really have Pap tonight. We’ll make an evaluation tomorrow.”"

Be sure to check out both articles below, they’re definitely worth a read. And as always, stay tuned to DoD for all your Washington Nationals needs.

WASHINGTON — A few days after the MLB Draft ended, the Nationals were able to agree to terms with infielder Carter Kieboom, who was the 28th overall pick. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The Nationals have not confirmed the signing.

According to the source, Kieboom took his physical on Monday and will go to the team’s Spring Training complex in a couple of days. Read full article here.

‘Sore’ Jonathan Papelbon unavailable Monday night

As the Nationals batted in the bottom of the seventh inning, cameras caught Jonathan Papelbon sitting in the dugout. Moments later, as Oliver Perez and Shawn Kelley pitched through the top of the eighth, the Nationals’ closer stayed there while Felipe Rivero warmed up. When the Nationals took the field for the top of the ninth, in a save situation with a three-run lead, Papelbon stayed in the dugout — a perplexing place to be in such circumstances, in as big a game as June can muster.

Nationals Manager Dusty Baker said later that Papelbon was unavailable Monday. Why? On that point, Baker was reluctant to elaborate. Read full article here.
