After dominating against the New York Mets during a four-game series last week, Daniel Murphy earns our Washington Nationals Player of the Week honors.
We’re officially past the half-way point of the season and the All-Star break is upon us. With it, a sense of calm and confidence that the Washington Nationals haven’t seen since 2014.
The Nationals ended the first half with an encouraging series win over the Mets — taking three out of four games from the defending National League champs to extend their division lead to six games.

While the entire team pulled its weight last week, one player in particular guided the Nationals to a spectacular finish to the first half. That player is former Met and current Nationals star Daniel Murphy, who was undoubtedly the team’s best player last week (from July 4 to July 10).
Murphy — the NL’s top hitter going into the break — has been one of the Nationals’ most valuable players all season long, and last week was no exception.
Over his last seven games, Murphy is hitting .346 with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. On the season, he’s now batting an NL-best .348 with 17 home runs and 66 RBIs.

The infielder was especially dominant facing his old team. In front of a Citi Field crowd that booed his every move, Murphy went 7-for-17 with 3 homers and 10 RBIs. He’s dominated the Mets all season long, drilling seven home runs with 21 RBIs.
Tomorrow, Murphy will represent the Nationals on the NL All-Star team. Hopefully for the National League, Murphy can bring to tomorrow’s game what he brought for the Nationals last week and all season long.
