After another dominant week at the plate, Wilson Ramos earns our Washington Nationals Player of the Week honors for the week of Aug. 1-7.

One of the main reasons the Washington Nationals have been one of the best teams in baseball this season is the emergence of Wilson Ramos as the best-hitting catcher in the game. Ramos has been one of the anchors of the Nationals’ lineup all season long, and last week was no exception.

In five games last week, Ramos slashed .586/.524/1.053 with three home runs and eight RBIs. The 28-year-old catcher helped the Nationals score 84 runs last week, and helped lead the team to a 5-1 record over that stretch.

More from District on Deck

For anyone who has been following Ramos and the Nationals this season, his performance last week should come as no surprise. Ramos has been dominant from Day 1 this season, and he’s managed to stay healthy and productive for the first time in his career.

Of course, Ramos’ career year at the plate comes at the best time possible for him and for the Nationals.

For Ramos, it comes when he’s about to hit free agency for the first time in his career.

Up until this year, Ramos was widely considered to be a decent catcher with vast offensive potential but a proneness to underperform and land on the disable list. Now, Ramos has become one of the best hitters in the game.

For the Nationals, Ramos has helped them overcome a lackluster year at the plate from Bryce Harper and a lost year at the plate from Ryan Zimmerman.

Hopefully for the Nationals, Ramos will continue to lead the middle of the order to success down the stretch and into the postseason. Ramos has been one of the team’s most important players this year, and he was especially good last week. For that reason, he earns our Washington Nationals Player of the Week honors.
