Aaron Nola will face off against Max Scherzer in the finale on Thursday, a matchup that’s sure to turn some heads in baseball. Both are NL Cy Young candidates, Scherzer is first in bWAR and Nola is third in that category. It’s sure to be a Clash of the Titans on the mound and a fine way to round out the series.

In this series, the Nationals will have a bitter-sweet moment when they welcome Wilson Ramos back to Nats Park for the second time this year. He’s been great for the Phillies so far, going 7 for 17, with a 1.176 OPS, and he even has a triple to his name. However, it will be somewhat bitter that he’s not back with the Nats, given up the minimal cost Philadelphia gave up to get him.

Instead of re-acquiring The Buffalo, the Nats kept faith with Matt Wieters who continues to swing a hot bat. In his last 13 games, he’s hitting .350 with five walks and five strikeouts and an OPS north of .900. It will be interesting to see if he can keep this up in a series that’s sure to be decided by the odd run or two.

Next. Nats must develop more pitchers internally. dark

The Washington Nationals season appears all but dead and buried at this point in the season. But if they can sweep the rival Phillies, then the life support machine may start beeping again.
