
Erick Fedde – Pitcher
Much like Joe Ross, Erick Fedde will be another pitcher coming back from injury looking to make an impression. After an up and down start to his 2018 season, he’ll hope to get a head start in winning a 2019 rotation spot.

He can be activated from the disabled list on September 5th, but the team will need to clear a spot on the 40 man roster. When he does come back, he’ll need to improve on the 5.79 ERA and 1.64 WHIP he’s posted in the majors this year.
There’s reason to believe he can do so though when you look back at his minor league statistics. In the bigs, it’s been the long ball that’s killed him, allowing 1.6 HR/9, but in AAA he was allowing just 0.4 HR/9.
While some increase is expected with much better hitters, that’s an astounding leap that should correct itself. He’s also been the victim of a .364 BABIP with the Nats so that’s due for some correction too.
However, his strikeout totals have gone missing from his game in the majors compared to the minors. In his minors career, he has an 8.8 K/9 while that figure has dropped to just 7.1 in nine major league starts.
He’s lacked an out pitch that’s good enough at the next level and has been relying on his sinker to induce more groundballs instead. That’s going to be the key point of improvement if he wants a rotation spot in 2019. It will be interesting to see whether he can impress down the stretch for the Nats
