4 former Nationals who are playing in the Yankees vs Dodgers World Series this year
With the World Series set to kick off tomorrow evening, let's see what former Nationals are going to be competing for a chance to win a World Series.
This year's World Series should be fantastic, with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers set to go head to head. The Dodgers, led by Shohei Ohtani and many familiar names such as Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Max Muncy will be looking to clinch their second title of the decade. On the flip side, the Yankees, led by former Nationals legend Juan Soto, as well as Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole. The star power is strong in this series, and taking the two biggest markets in the sport and putting them on the biggest stage should lead to the best ratings in years.
As for what us Nationals fans should be on the lookout for? There are actually 4 former Nationals who will be playing in this year's World Series. Let's take a quick look back at each player's tenure in the Nation's Capital. If you missed our original article about all 13 former Nationals who were in the postseason, check that out here.
LHP Anthony Banda - Los Angeles Dodgers
Out of the 4 players here, Anthony Banda's tenure was the most recent but also the shortest and most forgettable. The lefty reliever appeared in only 10 games with the Nats, pitching to an uninspiring 6.43 ERA and 2.00 WHIP before being DFA'd at the end of April in 2023. Of course, the Dodgers were able to utilize their pitching lab and make him a solid bullpen piece with a 3.08 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, even recording a couple saves during the regular season this year.
RHP Blake Treinen - Los Angeles Dodgers
Righty Blake Treinen was with the Nationals from 2014-2017, after coming over from the Oakland Athletics in 2013. While he was always a solid reliever with the Nats, he truly broke out after going back to the Oakland Athletics in the Sean Doolittle trade, and became an All-Star in 2018. He has been a reliable bullpen arm for Dave Roberts and the Dodgers since 2020, and will be looking to get his second ring with the club.
RHP Daniel Hudson - Los Angeles Dodgers
We all know Daniel Hudson as the man who closed out the Nationals' World Series win in 2019 as the team's closer, but his career has truly been remarkable. From bouncing around to multiple teams and re-inventing himself as a reliever in the middle of his career, his second act has been fantastic. Since being shipped off to the west coast to the Padres for Mason Thompson in 2021, Huddy has continued to be a solid bullpen arm for the Dodgers after signing with them in the 2021 offseason. Maybe he'll get another chance to close out a World Series this year.
OF Juan Soto - New York Yankees
Finally, the man who needs no introduction at all, Juan Soto is the lone Yankee in this year's World Series who has appeared in a game with the Nationals. We don't need too many details to describe Soto, but once the series concludes, all eyes will shift towards his impending free agency, where a return to the Nation's Capital might not be completely out of the question. Us Nats fans will be keeping very close tabs on Soto throughout the series as he chases his second ring.
