Coming off of a big weekend series win against the Baltimore Orioles, the Washington Nationals have a lot of momentum across multiple levels of the organization. While the national media still is not talking about the team a lot, anyone who has paid attention to what's going on in DC has to be legitimately impressed with what has gone on so far.
While the big league club continues to hang around the .500 mark, Paul Toboni's vision of turning the Nationals into a player development machine are already beginning to come to fruition. After a bold offseason in which he overhauled everything going on down in the minor leagues and bringing in a ton of new talent from the Texas Rangers in the MacKenzie Gore deal, Toboni has to be breathing a sigh of relief right now.
Perhaps his biggest win so far in his new regime is the success of previous draft picks that had previously struggled under old leadership. Under that pretense, there has been no bigger winner than Seaver King, who has been working hard at his craft to change the narrative around his career.
His hard work continued to pay off in a huge way, as he earned a promotion to AAA Rochester earlier today for the minor league off day, and he more than deserved it after getting off to a scorching hot start for AA Harrisburg. The fact that a year ago at this time he was a prospect trending downwards in a big way to being a step away from the big leagues today is no small feat, and I'm very excited to see his journey continue to progress.
The Nationals are promoting shortstop Seaver King to Triple-A Rochester, per multiple sources.

The 2024 first-round pick (No. 94 in Keith Law’s Top 100) has reached base in all 35 games he’s played this year.
Hit .336 with a .989 OPS in Double A.
King reached base in every single game he appeared in for the Senators, slashing .336/.427/.562, good for a .989 OPS to go along with 5 homers, 27 RBIs, and a 31:22 K:BB ratio, vastly improved from last season. His approach at the plate has been a huge piece of evidence that the new staff Toboni put in place is working, and he has been a major beneficiary.
From a guy who was falling off prospect maps and already being labeled as a bust before he went to the Arizona Fall League, King is now on the doorstep of Washington and might just end the season as a foundational piece of the future for the club. For a guy I selected as my breakout prospect before the season began, he sure has looked the part so far.
What do you think of Seaver King being promoted to AAA Rochester? As always, please let me know on X, @DCBerk.
