The Washington Nationals have continued to create some positive momentum on the homefront with regard to their farm system and player development. Right after news broke that #5 overall prospect Alex Clemmey, a crafty lefty pitcher who had dominated High-A Wilmington was moving up to AA Harrisburg, numerous sources announced several other promotions.
Included in their wave of promotions was a handful of young talent that could push for the big leagues sooner vice later, and it began with Clemmey's promotion. He is still just 20-years-old, but he legitimately has the potential to become a Top 100 Prospect in all of baseball if he can continue to progress the way he has so far.
Also on the pitching front was Kyle Luckham, a 2022 15th-round pick from Arizona State University. He has posted a 4-7 record, 3.50 ERA, and 1.34 WHIP to go along with 73 strikeouts in 108.0 innings in 21 total appearances. He is bumping up from AA Harrisburg to AAA Rochester, and the 25-year-old could push to become a big league asset at some point.
23-year-old righty Euri Montero was also promoted from Low-A Fredericksburg to High-A Wilmington, and he has posted a 3.12 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts in 34.2 innings. Pitching exclusively as a reliever, he has made 24 appearances this season and even made 2 saves as well.
Lefty starter Jackson Kent, a 2024 4th-rounder from the University of Arizona is moving from High-A Wilmington to AA Harrisburg, and he is yet another arm who could push to be a solid big league contributor sooner vice later. He has pitched to a 5-7 record in 18 starts with a 4.31 ERA, and 1.18 WHIP to go along with 97 strikeouts in 94.0 innings. After getting off to a red hot start this season he has cooled off a bit, but has still shown a ton of upside as a college lefty.
Pro ball, meet Petry! 👀

Now to the hitters, where a pair of 2025 MLB Draft selections in 2nd-rounder Ethan Petry from the University of South Carolina and 15th-rounder Jacob Walsh from the University of Oregon. Both of them began their professional careers last night and even recorded their first hits, with Walsh doubling and Petry recording a single. Both of them have a ton of power upside at first base, and with the Nationals having a dire need for the position long-term, they each should have a good chance to fly through the minors.
Finally, infielder Rafael Ramirez Jr., who came over along with Clemmey in the Lane Thomas trade from the Cleveland Guardians last summer, is headed back to Low-A Fredericksburg following a stint in rookie ball. He is still just 20-years-old, and hopefully will be able to find his footing his second time around with Fredericksburg.
Which Nationals' prospect are you most excited to see? As always, please let me know on X, @DCBerk.
