The Washington Nationals are in the midst of what can best be described as an organizational boom at the moment. Despite dropping Wednesday's series finale to the Kansas City Royals with a chance to sweep on the line, it can't overshadow their dominant first 2 games of the series, and just their overall play as of recently.

They sit a few games over .500, and the organization is really blossoming at all levels right now. Specifically, their player development infrastructure has been vastly improved, with a lot of guys showing major strides across each level. One prospect in particular has been lost in the shuffle, but deserves his flowers for the season he has put together so far.

Cayden Wallace is the forgotten Nationals prospect who needs a promotion

Simply put, Cayden Wallace has been one of the top performers so far this season within the organization of the Washington Nationals. The former headline piece back to the Nationals in the Hunter Harvey trade back in 2024 is putting himself back on the prospect radar. While the team's top prospects like Eli Willits take all the headlines with their breakout performances, there are guys like Wallace up and down the pipeline that have improved vastly with the new regime.

Just how much better has Cayden Wallace been? You can be the judge.

Last year, Wallace slashed .242/.310/.376, good for an OPS of just .686. Additionally, he only hit 10 homers and drove in 55 batters with 16 stolen bases in 121 games, all for AA Harrisburg. However, 2026 has been a different story as Wallace's slash line is up to .306/.366/.599 with a .965 OPS, and has rediscovered his power stroke in a big way.

In fact, with a recent homer surge, Wallace is now up to 17 homers and 44 RBIs on the year in just 59 games, all for Harrisburg again as he repeats the level. Simply put, Wallace, who has sort of been lost in the shuffle over the past year with infield prospects like Willits, Seaver King, Devin Fitz-Gerald, and others being viewed as the future, but Wallace is making sure his name stays in the shuffle.

Whether the Nationals view him as a potential trade piece or part of their future remains to be seen, but the early turnaround results concerning Wallace are extremly impressive. At this point, the Nationals might have no choice but to give him a look up with AAA Rochester, although there is some roster shuffling that would need to be done to make things smoother.
