Persistent rain pushes Game 2 of the Washington Nationals-Los Angeles Dodgers NL Divisional Series to Sunday.

The Washington Nationals will wait another day to play Game 2 of their National League Divisional Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Scheduled for 4:08 Saturday afternoon, heavy early afternoon rain, along with a threat for more bad weather, made the decision to postpone the game until 1:08 ET Sunday afternoon easy.

There should be a window between five and eight this evening when no rain is expected, but the field is soggay and playoff games take longer than three hours.

More from District on Deck

In recent years, Major League Baseball has changed the rules regarding weather and playoff games. In effect, there is no such thing as an official game in the postseason. All games will go the minimum of nine innings.

In going the conservative way, they do not want to start a game then stop it if it can be avoided. You do not want to lose your starting pitcher in the second inning, if the game is delayed several hours, or burn the bullpen between stops. If MLB did not think they could get a full nine innings in, then they made the right call.

When Game 2 gets underway Sunday afternoon, we still will see Tanner Roark on the hill for the Washington Nationals against Rich Hill of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jose Lobaton will catch and Danny Espinosa will be at short.

Since this is now a full day game, there will be no issues with the Metro. If you are going, you should have no trouble connecting with the train to the park and back home.

Because the series has been pushed back a day, there will be no off day before the NLDS heads to Dodger Stadium for Games 3 and 4. Game 3 will still be at 4:08 Monday afternoon in Los Angeles. For bullpen purposes, we now play three straight days. Provided the Dodgers do not sweep.
