The Washington Nationals have claimed left-handed pitcher Joe La Sorsa off waivers. La Sorsa was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays. La Sorsa will report to Triple-A Rochester and will hope to reach the Nationals bullpen who needs help badly.

The Nationals came into Sunday's game with a decent chance to win a series, but they fell 11-3 despite a decent start by Trevor Williams. The Phillies hit 5 homeruns off Nationals pitching en route to their win.

Although the Phillies battled back to tie Friday's game, the Nationals were 8-7 victors. Perhaps more importantly, or at least more humorously, the win knotted the Nationals with Philadelphia for fourth place in the NL East.

The Nationals returned to action on Tuesday night against the Dodgers and fell victim to the Dodgers' potent office once again, this time by a score of 9 to 3. Jake Irvin allowed 4 runs on 8 hits through 5 innings in the loss and Keibert Ruiz hit a homer.

The bats were awake this week for the Nationals as they scored 12 runs Friday night versus the Royals. The bullpen sputtered as it blew a seven-run lead. Has the narrative of strong pitching began to flip to consistent hitting?

MacKenzie Gore completed one of the best starts of his young career, and one of the best starts by a National this season. Unfortunately for Gore, the Nationals could not hold his lead and get him the win as they were walked off by the Royals in the 9th.

The Nats used another big 6th inning to take the lead in Kansas City on Saturday. After the 4-2 lead was secured, the bullpen shut down the Royals with five scoreless innings following Josiah Gray, who exited after only four innings.
